Abstract
This talk will first give an overview about technologies for the creative industries which have been developed by imcube over the past 8 years. Then, the workflows for native 3D productions, cinematic 2D-to-3D conversion and hybrid 3D productions will be introduced and discussed in order to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.
Finally, a short excursion to 3-dimensional 360° content production will conclude this talk.
Short Bio
Sebastian was the Managing Director of imcube labs GmbH, Germany and General Manager of Beijing imcube Technologies Co., Ltd.. Besides the management of both companies, he also worked on 3D TV and giant screen projects from BBC and BSkyB as 3D conversion supervisor and producer. His interests as scientists are in the field of computer vision, 3D image processing and immersive media, in particular virtual reality applications.
Between 2002 and 2009, Sebastian acted as project manager and senior researcher in the Communication Systems Lab at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. During this time, he was involved in several European Networks of Excellence, e.g. VISNET and 3DTV.
In 2007 Sebastian invented the process of automatic 2D to 3D image conversion with highly advanced computer vision technology. He received the Dr.-Ing. degree (Ph.D.) with highest honors in 2008.
Sebastian is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the German Society of Television- and Cinema Technology (FKTG e.V.). In 2014, he was the General Chair and Technical Program Chair of the 3Tec – 3D Quality and Technology Summit in Beijing. Sebastian received the German Multimedia Business Award of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in 2008, and was awarded by the initiative “Germany-Land of Ideas” which is sponsored by the German government, commerce and industry in 2009, respectively. In 2012, he received the Scott Helt Memorial Award for the best paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting in 2011.
Sebastian frequently works as reviewer for conferences and journals like the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (Elsevier), Signal Processing: Image Communication (Elsevier), the Journal of Selected Topics in Signal Processing (IEEE), the Transaction on Image Processing (IEEE), and the Transactions on Broadcasting (IEEE).
